Leadership Recognition

“Leadership in the OCDSB is the demonstration of personal initiative to achieve a positive outcome.”

Students

Every day, select students support our breakfast/snack program, deliver items and help our recycling program. Each week, select students engage in work experience outings to purchase groceries. In addition to informal recognition on a daily basis, we also acknowledge their contributions in our classrooms, newsletters, assemblies, the principal’s report to school council, and end of year ceremonies.

Staff

Our staff members have a wealth of professional qualifications. For teachers this includes Bachelors and/or Masters degrees as well as additional qualifications in Special Education, English as a Second Language, Reading, and Music. For Educational Assistants this includes, Developmental Service Worker Diploma as well as Bachelor Degrees. All staff have actively participated in numerous Board-wide professional development activities in literacy and numeracy, and we recognize their initiative by providing and supporting opportunities for further professional growth. At the same time, we promote leadership from within by adopting a train the trainer model whereby staff with expertise train others in on-going training sessions that are pertinent to Crystal Bay’s population. We recognize staff leadership via personal interactions with one another, letters of thanks, performance appraisals, staff meetings and our principal’s report to school council. As we are a specialized site, staff often initiate new programs for our students and support each other in these new initiatives.

Parents/Guardians/Volunteers

Our school council worked diligently raising funds to improve both programs and materials needed to support students. As a result of their avid efforts, council was able to replenish resources and support classroom initiatives. Being a small school unable to have its students raise money, the council has reached out to OCDSB schools for their support. This has resulted in past partnerships with Bell HS, Mary Honeywell PS, Farley Mowat PS and W.O. Mitchell. This year we are fostering new partnerships with area schools.

As invaluable partners, we thank our parents, guardians and volunteers on an on-going basis, and look for opportunities to acknowledge them such as school announcements, thank you letters, our principal’s report to school council, school newsletters, and our annual volunteer appreciation event.

Community

Our partners have contributed thousands of dollars to improve both our site as well as our programs. We have been supported by BuroVision, AVIVA, the SENS Goodwill Ambassadors, Community Foundation of Ottawa, the Education Foundation, the Ontario Principal Council, Nortel Community Volunteers and the Cummings family.
